The Maoist Appraising!
The Maoist appraising in Midnapore, West Bengal, India joining hands with local tribals is a slap on the face of the democratically elected Sate Government. Maoists have been operating strongly in that region bordering Bihar and Orrisa both known for Maoists guerrilla activities. When an elected Government fails to deliver even the basic necessities to the people and the local politicians grab all the benefits intended for the masses, a fertile ground is created for Maoist insurgents to flourish. When the heat becomes unbearable, these unorganised forces with sticks and axes are ready to battle the gun trotting security forces of the State. Leaders like the Mahatma, Vinobhabave and Baba Amte wanted the Governments of independent India to take care of the rural masses. But the present day Governments both at the Centre and at the States are bothered only about the urban masses and have left the rural population to fend for themselves - an attitude which the British were practising during their rule. With explosion of information and media presence in every nook and corner of the country, unless Governments act fast to redress the grievances of the rural masses more such uprisings with or without the support of insurgents may become everyday news!
